The Katong Joo Chiat Business Association ("KJCBA", "we", "us" or "our") is committed to protecting the personal data of our members, website visitors and everyone who interacts with us. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and what rights you have — in accordance with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 ("PDPA").

By using this website, submitting an enquiry, or applying for membership, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy.

We collect personal data only where it is necessary for the purposes described in this policy. This may include:

  • Contact enquiries: name, email address, phone number, and the content of your message, submitted via our Contact form.
  • Membership applications: your name, business name, Unique Entity Number (UEN), business address, contact details and other information requested in our membership application form.
  • Directory listings: business name, category, location and, where provided, promotional or descriptive content for members who are listed in our online directory.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data (such as NRIC numbers) beyond what is strictly necessary to verify membership eligibility, and we do not collect personal data from anyone we know to be a minor without appropriate consent.

3. How We Use Your Personal Data

We use personal data for purposes including:

  • Responding to enquiries submitted through our website;
  • Processing and administering membership applications and renewals;
  • Maintaining and displaying our member business directory;
  • Communicating updates, events, promotions and association news to members;
  • Representing member interests to municipal authorities and government agencies, where relevant and with appropriate consent;
  • Complying with our legal and regulatory obligations as a registered society.

4. Consent

We collect, use and disclose your personal data only with your consent, or as otherwise permitted or required under the PDPA. Where you submit a form on this website, you consent to us using your data for the stated purpose of that form. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us using the details in Section 9 — though this may affect our ability to process your enquiry or membership application.

5. Disclosure of Personal Data

We do not sell or rent personal data to third parties. We may disclose personal data to:

  • Service providers who help us operate this website or process membership applications on our behalf (for example, our online membership application form is hosted on Google Forms, and is subject to Google's own privacy practices);
  • Government agencies or municipal authorities, where required for advocacy on behalf of members, or where required by law;
  • Professional advisors such as auditors or legal counsel, where necessary.

6. Data Protection & Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data in our possession from unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification, disposal or similar risks. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Retention of Personal Data

We retain personal data only for as long as it is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law. Membership records are generally retained for the duration of your lifetime membership and a reasonable period thereafter for record-keeping purposes. Contact enquiries are retained only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry.

You have the right to request access to the personal data we hold about you, and to request correction of any inaccurate or incomplete data. To make such a request, please contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe, in accordance with the PDPA.
